Stavros Beach. This unique beach is located in Akrotiri at the northern tip of Chania, an approximate half hour drive from the center of the city. The beach became widely popular in the 70's as it featured scenes from the film Zorba the Greek (1964) where Anthony Quinn is seen dancing on the beach of Stavros. The film won 3 Academy Awards.

We left Athens on an early flight and arrived in Chania, rented a car and headed to this beach. It looks quite different than the movie. Although the natural sites are the same, there is much more development.
